Used to hear the chant "shimmy rule" in the shed. Think that was the name of a gang in Dundee, anyone know ?

As far as I can recall ‘Shimmy Shimmy Shimmy rule’ was a chant which went up where all the Dundee gangs came together against a common foe i.e. any kunt no fae Dundee

In my part of the world, 'shimmy' was something that Sturrock, Bannon, et al, used to do!

Shimmy Shimmy Shimmy rule was being sung as Shed Boys chased the Hearts fans around Hampden's east end terracing during our 4-2 semi final replay victory in 1974.

The Shimmy were not a scheme gang like the Fleet,Huns etc,if i remember correctly they were an all encompassing gang who were associated with DUFC.

Any United fan of advancing years will tell you The Shed was the all standing terracing behind the goal at the top of the slope. The term has sometimes been used to refer to the collective group that stood there. Shed Rule/Shed on Tour/Shed on the march etc. But is has never been used to describe our club as an entity.

I stood in the Shed for years
I watched many a game there
I was right in line with Finn Dossings goal v Juventus there
Among many other great Shed memories

The Shed as a place still exists but The Shed is not Dundee United.
To be honest mate i hate the phrase grinding my gears,i also hate the the use of the word awesome.I blame ****ey American tv shows aimed at our bairns. The other day i heard one ****age male saying to another,"Kylie has got awesome knockers."Its fair to say that Australian soap's are not helping either.

And the shed go marching on...on...on

The shed referred to the stand then to the fans within it. It has though taken on a mythical connection to cover all united fans and our cause.

Terms like ‘shed boys rule...’ is something every united fan could associate with.

I think a united supporting youngster today could properly call himself a ‘shed boy’ before commenting on Kylie’s awesomeness

As a matter of interest, what did the term 'Arabs' originally refer to in a DUFC context?
