No surprises there, the Glasgow derby was always more likely to be the Sunday.

The kick off time and date matter not on single jot, as long as we progress on the day nothing else matters. Not performance, not folk being 'entertained', not us being unlucky, this is a must win game for us, end of story.

Only a must win until the next one of course.

Our modern record in semi-finals - on the rare occasion we make them - is actually astonishingly good. We're long overdue a stinker...

    Is it that good?

From my memory our recent semi finals have been pretty much hit and miss.

    17/18 LCSF - Rangers(W2-0)
    10/11 SCSF - St.Johnstone(W3-0)
    10/11 LCSF - Rangers(L1-2)
    05/06 LCSF - Celtic(L1-2)
    04/05 LCSF - Hearts(W3-2 a.e.t)
    02/03 SCSF - Rangers(L3-4)

Those are our last six semi finals since 1991 and it's played six, won three and lost three.

This one this year will be one tough, tough game no matter who we get and I think it's more likely that we will lose, but dare I say this...we could win it too!

In my head I was counting from 1991 with the the cup win being the arbitrary starting point - I'd say a 100% record against non-Old Firm teams and 40% against the Old Firm is brilliant. Indeed, I don't think a single provincial club in the country would turn down that record if offered by a magic fairy.

And while there's no points for losing in style rather than being hammered, I think it's notable that even in the semis we've lost to the Old Firm we've always been right in the game, unlike some others (though obviously we've taken some final tonkings, like plenty others)...as I said, I just have a bad feeling that an everything-goes-wrong-just-did-not-turn-up-stinking semi-final is more than due. If it has happened to Aberdeen, St Johnstone, Dundee United, Hearts, Hibs etc then inevitably our turn will roll around for that misery as well.

You could well be right and personally I don't think we will be making the Cup Final either, as I just think either of those sides will have the better of us on the day. We have had our Cup win over Aberdeen for this season and I don't think we will get another and Killie are a solid, well drilled side the type of which we more often than not struggle against.

But, football doesn't always work out the way you expect and at least this side is one that has character and fight to make up for its lack of quality, so you never know.

Our record in cup competition this season alone is impressive to say the least. I think we have played spl sides in every round in both cups, the only defeat was to Celtic in the final of course. That includes victories over Rangers, Aberdeen and Hearts. That in itself is a decent achievment and should see us go into the semi final with great confidence whoever we play.

As I said after the Hearts QF, this team has character and guts and that makes up for our lack of quality when it comes to games like this. We are almost the exact opposite of the best McCall side in 2012/13 which had genuinely good players but hearts of mice when it came to big games and it was no coincidence that we couldn't buy a cup win in any round in that time, never mind reach two semi finals in the one season*.

*Yes I know we managed this in 2010/11, which was when McCall came to the club half way through, but it was Brown & Knox that got us to the first one that year and after the St.Johnstone semi final we didn't kick a ball the rest of the season, and didn't win another cup match against a top flight side again until.....August of this season!
