    Southgate decision time Mar 15

Interesting article in Telegraph puts Clarets in win a chance
    https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football...dache-players/

    It includes the following

The England manager is, therefore, attending Burnley’s home game against Everton on Saturday where he can watch – for the second weekend in a row – goalkeeper Nick Pope as well as Everton’s Jordan Pickford. His assistant Steve Holland will be at Southampton against Stoke City to scout Jack Butland and Alex McCarthy.

Southgate’s presence at Turf Moor will also allow him to watch midfielder Jack Cork, plus his defensive team-mates Ben Mee and – if he returns from injury – James Tarkowski. Former Burnley defender Michael Keane may feature for Everton but while he was expected to be in Southgate’s squad three months ago, his place is now under threat given his form.

With Gary Cahill no longer first-choice at Chelsea it means that Southgate’s plans to play a three-man defence at the World Cup have been complicated. Phil Jones is injured, although he should return in time for the tournament, while even John Stones has not played for Manchester City recently, although his place is not under threat.

He has to name his squad by March 15th!

After today Lowton might even be in contention.

Jamie Redknapp pushing for Tarks describing his as the new Rashford, the player who came from nowhere to get in the cup squad.
You could add Pope to that too.

Daily Mail doesn’t think Tom or Nick will make the cut in an assessment of contenders
Butland Pickford and Hart get their nod with Nick ahead of Tom.

Sean pleased with number of times Southgate has been to see us and seems in touch fairly regularly with him.

Several papers suggesting Tarks is likely to make it as usual midfield players are struggling.

    .

surely - won't choose Pickford - after his screw up with the Barnes goal.

I do not get the "Butland for England" plea. I think he is s h i t e!

Heaton would have walked in pre-injury, so why not now?

Hart is a busted flush, Pickford demonstrated on Saturday that he is still very naïve, Pope however much we love him is still totally untested at international level.

Quite a headache Southgate has with this conundrum!

This is my take. Butland will go as number one with Pickford as his deputy. That leaves the third spot between Hart Heaton and Pope. I don’t think Tom will be risked as he is just recovering from a serious injury. In terms of current form it should be Pope but I expect Southgate to go for experience and pick Hart. One Claret who should surely be going is Tarka but can we trust Southgate to get this right?

Pope best for England says this analysis of the top contenders

Surprised to see his long ball accuracy is greatest and he wins almost all categories.
