Hughes is not a strange appointment in Saints' current situation. The strange thing is that if he keeps them up, his contract will be extended. That's where most clubs go wrong.

Long contracts need to be evaluated I think. It's becoming too easy for managers to reap rewards they don't deserve.
I'd say that's the case with players but that's a whole bigger complicated issue.

The honeymoon period is a well proven factor - it all depends if he can change the mindset of the players. I’m not that sure he can.
Seems many managers can come in and make a short term improvement at a club (even Pardew sometimes) but only the good ones can build a squad over time for consistent success. Here’s hoping Rafa gets the time to see if he can, for us

Mark Hughes is in the loop.

Hughes, Pardew, Moyes, Hodgson, allardyce, pulis...

    it's rinse and repeat!

I think even a dinosaur manager can get a tune out of the fiddle that is Southampton
They have some real quality players and have had spent mega bucks over the past 10 years while we’ve gone backwards

They are not to far away to get back in the mix
Just look at Swansea a half decent manager with some organisation can do wonders I’m afraid

I think a few will be surprised at what hughes could achieve

they don't have bad players and they weren't playing for the last manager

they have 2 strikers that if you get the ball into the box they will score

    wont be pretty though

I don't disagree with most of this to be honest.

Even if they just double the effort they put in for previous manager he'll get them safe i reckon.
