It's barmy, on Friday sat in the garden shorts, crocks and me top off.
Would you be too young to remember 62-63 winter. No time off school, had to sit in your coat and wet wellies all day.

I remember travelling with my mate from Herefordshire to watch us play Sheffield Wednesday. Why, I don't know because all the games on that day were postponed. Miraculously, by importing tons of sand from Southport, the game went ahead. Fat lot of use it did us, we lost 0-3.

I recall one home game must have been 1963/4 or thereabouts. I think there had been really hard frosts and back then many games were postponed as the pitches were dangerous. But this one Saturday amazingly Albion’s game went ahead. The pitch had been totally covered in a brown substance that absolutely stunk. God knows what it was but it made the whole place reek like a farmyard.

I remember that winter so well, had to walk a mile to school and back 4 times a day. The winters we get now don't compare.

Phil, the Albion went on strike that winter, Hagan wanted them to train outside in shirts and shorts. Don Howe led a players revolt. Can't remember the outcome, but Howe ended up at Arsenal.

Me too Des. May have been a tad short of a mile but I was only 8. No one considered not going. All the teachers lived local as far as I knew as well so they had no excuse either.
The people just accepted it. It is winter. It snows in the winter.
I don't recall shops being short on stock but there again it wasn't my problem so maybe some were. Most cooked their bread at home and had the ingredients to hand. I don't recall my wife ever baking bread.

Few weeks later he reversed down the canal bank at Spring Rd, players had to rescue him.Think it was a Triumph Herald.
