Yes they cheated, yes they are guilty but this mob reaction is getting completely out of hand imo.

For goodness sake top sportsmen, especially footballers, are cheating in every game and even in cricket there have been ball tamperers in the recent past who have been found guilty of pre mediated cheating. None have had to go through the public humiliation that these people have.
I think your missing the point big time .these are the Aussies.thats what most posts on here are about .the Aussie press/media would have had the England players horse drawn and quartered.what did there coach say the last ashes over there ,let’s end some carries and send them home in tears.they got no manners decorum or finesse ,unclothed t@sers .

It isn't just the ball tampering incident that has recently occurred that is the problem. The culture of the Australian side in general is extremely questionable. Their aggression often oversteps the mark and their attitude towards opponents is bullying and boorish. Yes, other teams do it to them but that is only in response to how they conduct themselves. You are often going to get flash points in a game and every side has their fiery individuals but they have turned it into an art form and cultivate it. This is the reason why there is little sympathy for them. Let's hope that this is a salutary lesson to them and that they alter their approach in the future.

I don’t agree that I am missing the point.

My point is that all this fuss is just because it is the Aussies, in other words little to do with the ball tampering. I don’t think it would have even made the press if it had have been Sri Lanka, West Indies etc. I can’t remember the Du Plessis incidents being on the main news at all, let alone much in the press. We are now jumping on the higher ground, previously occupied by the Aussies.

I do agree that they have overstepped the mark and this will hopefully make them (Australian cricket team) change their attitude. That though is representative of the team and the culture and not just down to these 3 or 4 who are being hung drawn and quartered for ball tampering, supposedly nothing else.

Daft as it might sound, I wonder why shining the ball is acceptable (???)

To keep the ball in as good as condition as possible, it's a five day game at the top level.

A simple rule change would help.

As soon as the ball is dead it should be handed to either umpire.

The bowler should then take the the Ball from the umpire and only HE should have any right to administer a polish to the ball whilst walking back to his mark.

There should be nobody allowed to be the specialist ball polisher as has crept in in recent years.

Each bowler should have his pockets inspected before each session.

It's polished and shined up on one half of the ball. It's to create swing (I think).

It's been going on for years. Soil in the pocket, growing long finger nails to pick at the seam, rubbing on the zip of trousers, hair gel/ lipsol to shine up the ball.
If anyone believes that this is the first time they have done it and just happened to be caught they are naive.

No problem 68 and I do agree with all your comments.

I just don’t think it is right that they get one reaction and set of fines because they play for Australia and another response altogether because they play for say Sri Lanka, Pakistan, West Indies or South Africa.

Seems more like racism to me rather than justice. In fact when Tendulkar was charged with tampering with the ball a few years ago both the Indian press and the Indian Cricket Board called the match referee a racist for bringing the charge!!
