£211 M goes in PL agents fees

Last calendar year and we were the lowest spenders on £3.3 m with even promoted Brighton spending more on £4.2m. Heddersfield spent over £2m.
At the stupid end of the spectrum Liverpool paid out £26.7m, Chelsea paid a total of £25.1m, while Premier League leaders Manchester City spent £23.4m.
In contrast, Burnley, we paid £1m less than Sunderland, who spent £4,370,897 - more than they forked out for transfers.

Blackburn Rovers, who were relegated from the Championship last season paid £764,024, while Wigan, who also dropped down to League One, spent £557,333.

The sooner these parasites are removed from the game the better.

    From Watford
Watford are the fifth highest spending team in the Premier League when it comes to expenditure on agent fees, an FA report has revealed.
The findings, which are based on outgoing fees paid between February, 1 2017 and January, 31 2018, show the Hornets spent £13,390,605 and outstrips Arsenal’s £10,560,689.

Bournemouth, who are a place ahead of Watford in 10th thanks to goal difference, spent £7,733,988 and 12th placed Newcastle forked out £7,409,760.

The total payment relates to both the retention of existing squad members with renewed contracts and the signing of new arrivals and involves some 29 players.

As an industry football stinks.Grossly overpaid employees in,at least, the top two divisions and the employees expect their employers to pay the fees of their agents.Does this happen in the world of entertainment generally? I doubt it.Does the Premier League and the FA regulate these Agents? Is there an agreed scale of fees?

Maybe the Authorities should advise all Clubs that from a set date Agents fees must be paid by the employee.

    From the Telegraph in January
    https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football...cketed-agents/

The Premier League and the EFL have launched reviews into the regulation of football agents amid growing concerns over the rising amount of money that is being paid to intermediaries who represent players, Telegraph Sport understands.

The EFL last month wrote to every club in the Championship, League One and League Two asking for observations on the changing relationship between clubs, players and agents following a major reworking of intermediary regulations in 2015.

And Telegraph Sport understands that clubs are increasingly concerned that agents are pocketing an excessive amount of money from transfers or negotiations.

There are also worries regarding potential conflict of interest issues with what is known as “dual representation”. This is a practice by which an agent can legally act on behalf of both the player and the club during a transaction.

It's a knotty problem OC, and one that is difficult to sort out.

Whilst there is so much money sloshing around it is certain to attract these parasites.

If the big clubs really want to sign a player for £100M , and are competing against other big clubs, then they will happily pay a bit more to sweeten up the player and his agent.

The amount of research that would have to be done to make sure that all transfers were done properly is beyond the power of the EPL.

I am sure that brown envelopes have always been a part of the game - the fact is that today's brown envelopes have to be much bigger than in the past.
