Sad news that. He played when darts was really taking off due to some real characters of the game. Bristow, Jocky wilson, John Lowe and a few other fat blokes. Personally I was utter crap at darts, couldn't subtract, always having to finish on a double one and i couldn't even hit that. Darts was worth watching when Bristow played.

I never watch darts now but loved it in the 70’s and 80’s.
Loved the international matches where Eric would wind up the Scottish crowd and Jocky would get shirty and be sweating like a Scouser in a job centre!
Once Eric got the Yips I lost interest.
A sad loss....so many “Young Stars” of my own youth are now dropping like flies.
That “Praying Mantis” style of his and the way he controlled the tip of the dart with his little finger was unique and it was the style I tried to copy ( miserably! ) whilst whiling away many hours in the staff restroom at Hepworth Menswear in Solihull in the early 80’s.
Many a dart found its way into our fake leather recliner as I tried to refine my style!
RIP Eric the “Crafty Cockney” and thanks for the memories.
