Wolves have a chance to secure automatic promotion this week. I believe we could secure automatic promotion if we beat Derby AND Fulham draw or lose against Reading. That match is on Tuesday, while ours is Wednesday, so we will know after tomorrow what the situation is. If Fulham win, promotion may have to wait til Sunday against Brum. I'm of two minds. One, I'd love to get promotion secured ASAP. I don't fear a collapse, but it would be nice to just enjoy the final four matches of the season and only have to worry about the league title by getting a handful of more points. On the other hand, it would be hilarious to see Cardiff collapse down the stretch and Fulham beat them out for automatic promotion.
Either way, would just love to see Wolves win on Wednesday. After going winless in seven matches, Derby have won back to back matches against PNE and Bolton. Their automatic promotion hopes are gone, so they're just looking to secure a playoff spot, which shouldn't be a problem. Still, moving past Villa might see them play an easier opponent in the playoff semifinals. Regardless, Derby will want to build some momentum heading into the playoffs. There was a point in the season in which Derby were 2nd in the table. It also coincided with a 4 match Cardiff losing streak. Since then, they've gradually fallen down the table, dealing with poor form and injuries. As I said, they're on a two match winning streak. They do possess the league's top scorer, Matej Vydra, who has put 19 in during league play. After that, they have nobody with more than 6 league goals. They do have former Wolves man, Sam Winnall, so you can bet he'll be itching to score. They have veterans David Nugent and someone else familiar with Wolves, Andreas Weimann to assist in the attack. They're a quality team, 5th in goals scored and 3rd in goals conceded. They have a very good manager IMO, in Gary Rowett. We beat them in August, but that was a long time ago. Still, have to think Wolves are itching to secure promotion, but who knows where our emotions will be after the dramatic win at Cardiff. I think we'll have a bit of a hangover from that. Though the extra days rest may assist in that.
