Yes there crap full backs who would you pick paolo Maldini or Marcelo/ Ashley your for young left back or Philip lahm or victor moses for you right back ? I think most would choose maldini and lahm

I deliberately picked wingbacks ( as was the topic) who played in the last few days in the World Cup.
Players who wer forward players and converted into wingbacks.
I didn’t go for traditional full backs who no longer play.

Shinnie wants to play midfield. He might play left back more this season but i'd almost guarantee when our biggest games come round he'll be playing in central midfield.

Modern fitba players are not pigeon holed as you are inferring.
They’re developed to be able to play a number of positions and understand the role.
Strikers develop better if they have played in defence as they appreciate what they prefer and what they don’t.
This goes for all over the pitch.

Victor Moses, Ashley Young and Marcelo are examples of wingers who have adapted well to a deeper role.

The modern day wingback is full of examples where wingers are converted into attacking full backs.

And not so 'modrin' vica versa .... eg.Chris Lawler, Liverpool, 70s .... at school fitba, late 70s, he was the example often cited by my 'field teacher when instructin us 'lesser doon the line on the team pick .. designated tae play an unpopular position ( like one favour above goalie)' ... that the full back, whilst their team is in possession, can, at once, push forward the offside trap whilst becoming a winger ... or at least an 'assistant winger' ... so whilst Ah agree afc1903 min ... err ... nae as modrin as ye might appear tae suggest
