Can't play hardball against that. Agents and players hold the aces and power not the club's.
If he had a release clause in his contract he must have got it put in when he signed his new one in January of that year.

Pretty pointless us getting him to sign a new deal so he could move to Celtic if that was the case.

If however a players says he will sign a contract as long as we dont stand in his way over a potential "big move", then there could be room for negotiation, however the interest of the club should ALWAYS come first.
I agree with all of that, hopefully the club do too.

£2m plus Griffiths on a permanent basis? Nobody in their right mind would say no to that. 20-30 goals a season guaranteed and could sell him for several million at any point as well. What a pointless scenario to suggest!

I don't think McKenna will go to Celtic anyway - he'll stick around for this season and head south next summer - or possibly sign for someone in January and return on loan for the rest of the season similar to McLean.

I'm certain (or certain as you can be with AFC) that there is one big-ish deal still to be concluded.

It looks like we have been round the houses and back, in terms of striking options, and have come up with what looks like a good option in Wilson, and it appears the same thing is happenning with either a number 10, or winger. Knock backs, mibbees aye, mibbees nah etc etc Clubs hedging their bets, as we are too.

If we take in a player in one of those positions on a permanent deal, we'll take in the other, on a loan.

    Phit I think anywi, ken?

Surely he goes out on loan to a club in the championship....

Hard to see where he could fit into our starting XI

Nah, no point in getting Griffiths. We don't need a left winger.

If he signed a new contract with a release fee it could have guaranteed us the £1.3M instead of a negotiated £500k for example.
