Thought this was about strengthening the players' squad for next season, Anelka-esque...
Jesus Christ. What am I reading???
You have to ask yourself, why is he being linked? It ain't because of his managerial ability, its because he's a 'name'.
Also ask yourself, will Kluivert care that much if he got the job and failed? And what does Kluivert know about the Championship? Because from what I know, he has never been involved in it, or English football at all apart from a few months at Newcastle 20 years ago.
If we're going to go for a 'name' we might as well go for the English route as other have mentioned, a Lampard or Gerrard. At least they know a bit about the Prem / have good contacts.
It won't be easy to choose our next manager, but I'd rather go for a manager who has earned a shot by doing well in the lower leagues.
Off the top of my head, I'd rather one of these:
Nathan Jones at Luton
Paul Hurst at Shrewsbury
Danny Cowley at Lincoln
Paul Cook at Wigan
John Coleman at Accrington
There's no doubt people scoffing at my suggestions right now, but all of those have had success as a manager, know the lower leagues inside out and are more qualified than Kluivert to manage our club.
But unfortunately, they're not a.... 'Name'
At least he's not clinically insane.
The trouble is 123 if we like it or not Premier League players are all multi millionaires and all have very high opinions of themselves. It isn’t much difference in the Championship and surely we need to be trying to attract players good enough for the PL.
Players don’t respect Managers from League 1 and 2 and don’t fancy playing for many others who have had experience and some success at the highest level - Pardew, Allerdyce, Pulis, Ranieri, Conte even Mourinho was ousted at Chelsea, the list goes on and on.
Not saying Kluivert is the answer but for me looking at Leagues 1 or 2 is definitely not the answer unless that is where we end up at the end of next season and we expect to stay there for a few years.
I should have added Big Dave to the list!
Don't forget, Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho had to start somewhere. At one point in their careers they didn't have the experience and someone gave them a shot.
I'm just saying that I'd rather we give someone a chance than go for another failed, over the hill manager looking for a payday.
