Wouldn't be surprised if neither of us breaks 90 points.
Were both playing like a bag of nerves. Can see this being a stuttering finish where the best of a bad 2 gets 2nd.
Wouldn't be surprised if neither of us breaks 90 points.
You have to remember, we have young players in key areas who've never been in this position before.. Lenihan, Dack, Armstrong, Raya, Payne, Samuel..
That's the advantage Wigan have over us and shrews.
I agree that anxiety has set in. We really need an early goal to relax the tension, and make the opposition play a more open game.
I would be very surprised if Wigan didn't go on to win it now, but we are clear second favourites. Here are the remaining fixtures:
WIGAN
Rotherham (H)
Oxford (H)
Fleetwood (A)
Bristol Rovers (A)
Wimbledon (H)
Doncaster (A)
ROVERS
Bristol Rovers (A)
Peterborough (H)
Doncaster (A)
Charlton (A)
Oxford (H)
SHREWSBURY
Charlton (H)
Bury (H)
Peterborough (H)
Blackpool (A)
MKD (H)
Now if form worked perfectly, you'd back Wigan to win all of their games, but I bet they slip up in one of them.
We look to have the toughest games, but I'd expect us to beat Doncaster and Oxford, which - with one draw thrown in - might be enough, as it would give us 93 points.
In that case, Shrewsbury would have to win four of their five games, as three wins and two draws would keep them behind us on GD.
Can they win four? On paper, it doesn't look hard because they have four home games. On the other hand, they have major problems with injuries and suspensions, and they have picked up only eight points from their last five games. Probably, this Saturday's game against Charlton is make-or-break for them. Basically, they cannot afford to lose a game, whereas we might even get away with losing two.
That's the attempt at science and logic, but as I keep saying to Saxo, football often confounds you with "surprises". Otherwise, the "Ten Results" section on the pools coupons wouldn't be as hard as it is. I got it right twice in 20 years! (Do Pools Coupons even still exist in the UK?)
I have to admit our wheels are starting to buckle and dack partying with miss Attwood until the small ours isn't helping the cause.
Those figures I posted with the fixtures haven't changed yet, except that Wigan have already dropped two points!
