away games were a free for all , 8,9,10,000 fans going away was a regular occurence, not the all ticket malarchy and the grannies outings of the supporters clubs of today.

it was a game for the working classes, far more fun and adventure was to be had then , than you will ever get nowadays in todays game.

Silly old Cnut, trying to relive his youth.

****e day out if you didn't go back home with blood on your toe caps.

(and it could be argued we've slowly got worse since he went!)

As for season 84-85, thats when footy was still a fans game, nobody had heard of Sky telly then had they.
sky tv and all seater stadiums changed the game totally fella.

the hillsbrough disaster was the turning point, even though if the south yorkshire police had done their job properly it would never have happened .

Thats not a subject worth covering though Marls, the incompetence of the filth that day was just staggering.
Speaking of Sky though, Oakwell staged its first live tv (on Ytv) game that season, against Liverpool in the Fa cup qtr final. Back in the days when Saint & Greaves was the best footy show around.
