It's flaky posts like this that lost us Pocket, Jolly and Mr Kemp. Worthers Original anybody?
Was always a big fan of these even though they were not authentic being made with flaky pastry and no crimping at all.
When Hagenbachs was sold to Thurstons ( or to another bakers then to Thurstons, can't remember exactly) the recipe was retained.
And when Thurstons was sold to Greggs I believe they kept the same recipe for some time too, probably only in Yorkshire though.
Now Greggs sell a Cornish Pasty that's a bit more like the real thing and no doubt exactly the same at all their outlets but I still miss the Hagenbach pasty.

mmm pasties
Casper will be along soon to tell us the best pasty outlet in S Yorks.
Perigord dear boy, don't take this as ' gospel ' .....
the best Cornish Pasty we have ever tasted in South Yorkshire were from a little shop bottom end of Parkgate, right hand side going towards town, not sure if it's still there besides I don't do too much pastry these days.
Little shop in PG made them to order.......ideal for kempos Barbecue night's.
Im sure youd like mine..should have set up years ago, one of my regrets..make a selection, with one having a sage & onion twist and one with basil..the traditional one with no gravy..bit indulgent though..butter shortcrust instead of lard..wafer thin potato, swede, and carrot, lean mince and cracked pepper.. impossible to eat just the one..get the rennies out...
You have two on order this very minute milla.
One for me and one for sota.
One sage & onion & one basil, every easy on the salt, plenty of pepper.
See you in the New Inn.
Sounds awesome Frank. Will definitely be in The New Inn again soon :-)
