I am told it's a message inviting you to upgrade to Whats App Gold
I understand that if taken up it puts a virus on your mobile which renders your phone useless
Don't know any more than that Roma so just avoid if you get the message

    Bit more info

    WhatsApp Gold

Another WhatsApp hoax offers an exclusive invitation to upgrade to a premium version of the app, called WhatsApp Gold. It's complete and utter rubbish: there is no WhatsApp Gold.

"The invitation reads: "Hey Finally Secret Whatsapp golden version has been leaked, This version is used only by big celebrities. Now we can use it too."

It claims to allow you to delete messages after you've sent them, and simultanously send 100 pictures, among other things. It sounds great, but it's entirely made up. Click on the link in the invitation and you're more likely to end up with a malware infection. (See how to remove a virus from Android if you've already done so.)

It is a scam that uses the fraudsters favourite trick - that it's possible to get something for nothing.

    Labour voters beware.

I was merely warning against the perils of believing something for nothing messages, with particular reference to a group of people who seem very vulnerable to the same at the moment.

I think it is a social medium that young people and narcissists use.

Speaking of social media, I wonder what Exile's opinion of the Cambridge Analytica controversy is? He said that he'd started a thread in which he expressed an opinion, but I can't find it.

any further info I'm sure he'll be glad to provide because as you know he is the fount of all knowledge but can't undertake a simple search task poor soul he loves semantics so much he has become obsessed with trying to find Cambridge Analytica thread on this board
Perhaps if he looked on his own board
Wonder if he's stopped beating his wife
