Joey Barton to be new Fleetwood town coach

Joey Barton will take charge of League One Fleetwood Town on a three-year deal from 2 June, a day after his suspension relating to betting rule breaches ends.

The 35-year-old was sanctioned by the Football Association in April 2017 and is banned from football until 1 June.

"I'm very excited by the challenge," the ex-England, Manchester City, Newcastle and Burnley midfielder said.

Barton initially received an 18-month ban after he was found to have placed 1,260 bets on matches over 10 years.

His ban was reduced by five months on appeal and he will begin his first managerial role the day after it expires.

John Sheridan, who replaced Uwe Rosler as Fleetwood boss in February, will leave at the end of the season.

Bet Sheridan despises RUFC. Every time he manages against us he gets the chop or leaves a club.

Has he had a bet on them to be relegated next season?

I find him a knowledgeable bloke, with the right people with him I think he could do a decent job as long as he doesn’t send the team out to break legs or whatever.

His team will probably have to fight against 12 men though.....Ref

One thing's for sure, they'll be no shirkers in the side. He'll show them all the under handed tricks in the book. Expect them to be the Yellow card kings next season.

    Won't last the season out.

Maybe the first thing he will do is set up a betting syndicate with the playing staff....

I wonder if he'll be player-coach? It doesn't mention anything about that in the announcement.

Can’t believe Sheridan is going. Don’t know what it is about them but they certainly like a name.
As for Joey Barton, think they’ll be ringing Sheridan up again in March next year.

They were in freefall when Sheridan joined them. He stabilised the situation and kept them up so they thanked him by stabbing him in the back 😕
Can't help but hope they pay for that next season.
