very dissapointing
better than gayle
maybe
better for our recent system
nope
I agree with Pboro. He changed the whole shape of the side and contribution wise I think Gayle offers more.
He looks to be in the same mound as Mitro just a bit quicker.
It was one game.
I wasn't impressed by him but saying that I wasn't particularly impressed by anyone from either side. From the off you could tell they all had their flip flops on.
I don't want to judge Slimani on one start, but you can probably put his lack of pace (looks like he's carrying a bit timber) and poor first touch, down to a lack of full on first team football.
I thought he was mint...
I thought he didnt suit the system but really cant be judged on a single performance.
Hard to tell, really.
I mean, on the one hand, maybe the type of striker he is doesn't suit Rafa's game. The striker we buy in the Summer should be in the Gayle-type mould...but obviously can score a wee bit more regularly.
By all accounts, we looked better when Gayle came on (and promptly missed a chance) but, when Slimani came on for Gayle against Arsenal we immediately looked more threatening and we scored against Huddersfield because Slimani put their 'keeper under pressure just with the way he'd put himself about and by his presence. Swings and roundabouts although my initial impression is positive rather than negative.
I'd like to see more of him but, given the type of player he is and how much he cost Leicester-plus his age-I'd be surprised if he was our main striker purchase in the Summer.
I think we really need both type of player.
Before anybody mentions Mitro, it needs to be a player that Rafa will trust to play his way.
Slimani wasn't great last night but nobody covered themselves in glory really. Equally he changed the game and played a strong part in the win against Arsenal.
Need to see him properly in a few games before can really call it, basing it on one game, or one half of game is daft.
Rafa would have been better off using little and large. Like a poor mans Bellamy and Shearer.
He has nothing to lose by trying it.
