    Thauvin

Playing in the Europa league final against Athletico. Doing well this year for Marseile scoring 22 goals and a load of assists.

Still think it was right to let him go for him and us. 25 now, maybe we should have waited untill about now to sign him.

He was not mature enough at the time shame really
I think cabella has had a good season also

They are both slightly lightweight for English football imho

The French might be better suited for Thauvin, but he was honestly not given af fair chance under McClaren. We just did not see enough of him, and he was sent back to Marseille before we could really assess him. He's a hot transfer prospect this summer, I saw him linked with Bayern.

Aye, that's a good post, Hughie. Hindsight is a wonderful thing and, as ever, the truth lies between the two-was he not really suited to this League or did he not have a chance under one of the worst managers we've ever had?

Honestly, man, I shudder when I think of the way we were under that clown.

Spot on. I don't remember if Thauvin had an attitude problem - or was that just the explanation at the time? - but under Rafa I'm pretty sure we would've seen more of him. Fact is he's walking Ligue 1 as if it was Sunday League and tonight he's up against some of the best players in the world.

One can't help but think he might've foreseen how things would end up under Schteve, and packed his bags before he had even unpacked them here.

I think he was probably to lightweight for the prem, i seem to remember him being muscled off he ball a lot of the time.

However, we don't know what instructions he'd of been given etc.

I suspect we'd of seen a different player under Rafa but despite that, as i said above, i still feel he'd of been to lightweight.

He complained of being homesick did he not.
Was it him not giving Newcastle a chance not the other way round.

Cabella and Thauvin were remarkably similar-technically very good but too lightweight for this league, it seemed.

I though Cabella loved the olace but wasn't good enough whilst Thauvin looked good enough but didn't want to be here.
