The money we're spending on this stupid wedding needs to be put in to the NHS, plain and simple.

My dad has prostate cancer at the moment and has just had an operation to get it removed. The normal length of stay in hospital after a radical prostate removal is 6-14 days depending on how the patient reacts to the surgery. They booted my Dad out within 3 days to 'free up' a bed and we ended up in A&E 3 times over that weekend as he had blood clots in his catheter. Ironic isn't it? Freeing up a bed to then be taken in to A&E 3 times? If they would have kept him in everything would have been fine.

The NHS is underfunded and understaffed. I just want to make it clear that I don't blame this problem on 'immigrants' like most people do. I can see through all that. I blame the demise of the NHS solely on the Tories and the stirring up of racial hatred on Rupert Murdoch's hate machine.
Sorry to hear about your Dad Manc, it's only going to get worse under the current conditions in this country. The amount of taxpayers money we waste on things like this wedding or for example that stupid Garden bridge is ridiculous, people need to wake up and prioritise people's health especially those who aren't asking for sympathy or making it out like poor old me, sometimes people just need help. As I'm still in my thirties, the lack of help is shocking when you're still of working age, I'm gonna have to keep going full time till dialysis when hopefully I'll get some help to pay my rent and bills but I'm not banking on it. Good job I have family but seriously what if I didn't? Like I say what can you do for us? That's all people are bothered about. The trouble is that no one will really help anyone anymore because they know that they wouldn't get any help back if they needed it so think why should I.

What an excellent fred. It touches on all the reasons why I take pride in being a socialist and why I despair of some people who post on here and really think that people like May, Rees-Mogg, Failing Grayling and Gove actually give a s h i t about the lives of ordinary people.
There are Labourites too who live lives remote from ordinary folk. People like Blair and his cronies were often as far removed from socialism as Thatcher and her band of screwballs. They robbed the public purse to ensure that private enterprise made profit and Tories have continued doing that ever since.
Sorry to hear about your health issues, Crazyfists. If it gives a bit of hope, I too went downhill with my kidneys and was on dialysis but I did pull through and my kidneys are managing OK thus far.

The last of the Royals I would grumble at is Harry who has put a real shift in, both as a job and as a charity/good cause campaigner, and of all the royal brides who are able to pay their own way from their own efforts Meghan has to be near the top of the list.
The issue is not Harry, who may be a fine young man. The issue is the false values portrayed by sections of our media (and I don't exclude the BBC on this one) who think this tiny event has more importance than world peace.

Cheers Sid appreciate that, it'll be ok in the long run I know. I agree that for too long the people and services the government should be looking after have been neglected over the almighty dollar. People have their own opinions of Corbyn and fair enough but surely for the many, not the few has to be way any party should think.

The problem now is one of perception, the welfare state was / is there for those who fall on hard times. The likes of Channels 4 and 5 with their sensationalist, expose type programming about people on benefits, has jaundiced the public view of those in receipt of benefits. Some political parties have also done a very good job of splitting the working classes in to those with or without jobs, the latter being demonised as scroungers.

There are scroungers out there but anyone on benefits now is perceived as a career dosser, regardless of personal circumstances or background.

It didn't take long for a perfect example to hit the news - step forward Carillion! Here's just a few quotes from the Skynews report:

"An inquiry by two parliamentary committees finds Carillion's collapse was down to greed and a lack of oversight on many levels".

"A joint inquiry by two Commons select committees concluded no-one stopped directors "stuffing their mouths with gold" for years before it went into liquidation in January with debts of up to £7bn, including £2.6bn in pension liabilities".

"In their final report they said the primary responsibility must rest with the company's board, finding its actions were driven by "greed" through higher financial rewards for themselves aided by improved dividends for shareholders".

In other words, their board meetings probably went along the lines of "Let's just help ourselves to as much cash as we can and f*ck the 19,000 workers who have made a major contribution towards earning it". Thatcher must be rejoicing in her grave.

Stupid conclusion re Thatcher, you really have comprehension issues if that's what you believe. Re Carillion - absolutely that is not what big business should be about (nor what Mrs T would have wanted) and I hope we will see a major shift in the governance, including auditing, of large organisations and the charging of directors who in so many instances get off lightly/scot free only to then set up a similarly named business in the same market.

'70's Britain was all about the worker getting something for nothing, I'm sure not something the Labour government at the time really intended. When Mrs T wanted people do take some responsibilty for themselves instead of looking for handouts from the state she did not intend private business to shaft everyone, it just suited some folks agenda to do just that.

And will somebody please point me to the money tree that will pay for all the ails of the country without producing wealth. Oh yes, Gordon Brown stripped it bare and didn't plant any replacements.

Agreed on every point and before anyone pretends that this contradicts what I posted earlier, I assure you it doesn't
