    Director of football

I missed the fact that Steve Walsh has also been sacked as Director of football at Everton.

It wasn’t long ago he was supposed to be the man who found all the stars at Leicester prior to them winning the PL. Isn’t long before your reputation is spent is it.

His background definitely a better fit for us than the DoF we have at the moment.

Issue is, you rarely know how much influence a DoF has. Did he find Kante / Mahrez and Vardy? Or was it some scout we've never heard of...

Did he buy Gylfi Siggurdson and Davy Klaasen at Everton or were they Koemans picks and he just concluded the deals?

We know Dan Ashworth was brilliant for us because he had this knack of finding unearthed gems. But his ilk are rare which is why the FA snaffled him.

I'd probably prefer a domestic DoF over a foreign one though, so I probably agree with your statement that he's a better fit. But really, we don't know the full spec of their job..

DoF always made me wonder what they did, given you have a chairman, chief executive, manager and chief scout.

Surely the ce should have the role of director of football in his remit, instead of just creating more positions and salaries.

It's a football club with a relatively low income in corporate terms, there is no need for useless, expensive layers of bureaucracy.

The cult of Ashworth continues though, as we forget the millions wasted on zuvI etc, etc and just think of the good bargains like gmac and odious.

I listened to an Albion podcast a while back and it was an ex scout of ours who recommended Aubayang to Ashworth whilst he was at a young age at a French club and Ashworth went to watch him and said no.

Finding good players is harder than ever these days and imo a simple appointment of one man will not guarantee a flow of good players.

Every player market has been exploited now, Wenger started it with French players and and Carr at Newcastle had some success there too, in continuing this trend and then bought some right c rap like toivan, following the great signings of cabaye and tiote.

Now we have moneyball entering football, which I like and which we may be using already given the numbers of players we signed with previous bad injuries.

We seemed to have more of an interest in Egyptian players after what was reported to have been an increased interest after we watched (on tv) the performances of Hegazi and Gabi.

it was reported pulis liked the proposed signing of Hegazi, but not gabi.

So we got Gabi when tp left and he hasn't played (I don't know if anyone saw him for the u23?).

Bring him in With Pearson and Shakespeare...surely putting together a Premiership winning team for about £23million must appeal to the tight wads of West Brom.

I have to say that I agree with you GLM but I suspect we are in the minority, which is fine!
