    Newcastle in the money league

So how much does Newcastle really generate and what does Rafa have to work with? According to Deloitte money league, player sales and purchases are not included and ranked Newcastle in their top 20 revenue generators.

In the season we got relegated and prior to that, Newcastle gereated a revenue of:

    Matchday €35.2m (£26.8m)
    Broadcasting €101.4m (£77.1m)
    Commercial €32.7m (£24.9m)

And the figures were similar for the year before. So therefore Newcastle generated around the £130m mark.

But what about this season? Well based on the new to rights and prize money and keeping a constant commercial and match day revenue stream; Newcastle is looking to have earned approx

    Matchday £27m
    Broadcasting £123m
    Commercial £25m

Totalling £175m for 2017/18 season which is up by £45m from the previous premier league campaign.

The 2015/16 season saw Newcastle make an operating profit with a wage bill of £74m. Rafa had trimmed down the wage bill significantly and will continue do so with atleast another 5 high earners set to leave. Which should give a sizeable budget of atleast £30m to spend plus revenue generated from player sales.

One thing That is evident is that Newcastle are in the top 20 money league and generates enough income to run sustainably but the question really lies on how fat Mike cooks the books and makes it seem like we're always lacking the funds.

Good post but i'd say that £30 million isn't that much in this day an age.

So have to hope Mitro has a great world cup and we can really get some money for him.

What makes it triply difficult to sign top quality for NUFC is the ludicrous way that Ashley insists on paying up front the full fee and factors in the wages for the full contract for each sale. It’s clear no other clubs do this especially in the prem. No wonder he never goes above £12/13m. He allowed both Spurs and very likely Liverpool to pay a pittance for 3/4 seasons to buy Sissoko and Wijnaldum. No wonder they are so feckn far ahead of us.

We can’t be in that good a financial state if we’ve made a £90m loss for the year up to June 17. If he’d got rid of McLaren a month or so earlier then it’s likely that loss wouldn’t have happened. Loans here and there from him, just makes his strangle hold on the club tighter and will make him even less likely to want to sell without a massive offer being made.

Some say he is much better with the finances than Shepherd, it doesn’t appear so to me. As Charnley said we had to get up first time from the Championship, that’s why he gambled on agreeing to purchase the players we did.

The buck has to stop at the top, mismanagement from Ashley for a second time and really poor financial management. He’s just feckn Del Boy when it comes to running a football club and shows he’s learnt NOTHING in 10 years.

Well we have certainly gone backwards over the 10 years. Twice in fact with a huge bump and almost too close for comfort another five times. It's cost this club dear not just in money but in prestige, standing and importantly the ability to attract good players.

Something which wasn't so before Ashley's tenure. They were flocking to come here before Ashley took over.

The numpties will concoct an argument to try to prove the reverse of this though.

I'd still prefer to sign players like lascelles and Lejuenne over the likes of owen, Duff and Stephen feckin carr.

I'm not interested in whether or not we sign recognised top players, I'm interested in the club having the same ambition and philosophy as the manager so everybody pulls in the same direction.

That's quite right Mick. A happy medium between the two regiemes would be better for the club and I feel Rafa would be the right man to establish this.

This is the truest think I've ever read on this board, don't let people like pboro or that Mackem Andy try say other wise, we were a regular in Europe before Ashley took over and we were in Europe alot more than everton who are supposed to be this top 7 are ever in and now the club been in once in 10 years. We could attract top top players before Ashley come now we can't even get Tammy Abraham to choose us over swansea.

Mackem Andy's bitter jealousy that they have never been a top club or a European club makes him try and make himself feel better by saying the likes of West ham are bigger. They couldn't even qualify for the group stage of Europa league with the best team they probably had in the prem, twice losing the qualifier against some sh*tty Romanian club.

The profile of our club has dropped to that of West ham Southampton bc of Ashley and its f*c king embarrassing.

Who cares about size? Are we measuring d!cks here or what? To me, this discussion about which club is bigger is infantile and pointless.

What we have is a fantastic football club with massive support in the city as well in many other parts in the world. We have an owner who is not on the same page as the fans, and that's problematic. On the other hand, if given a decent budget, we have a manager who by virtue of his name and past achievements will be able to attract the players we need. We need to tie him down and show a bit of ambition, and if we do, this club will be extremely desirable to join for a many a top player around the world.
