    In Spain's case that's true Gaz ..The Spanish word for Cnut is "Coņo" ..If used in an argument it is a bad insult,but if used between friends it's a greeting .. I've heard many an old Spaniard greeting their friends (women as well) with "Hola coņos que tal". Meaning literally "Hello cnuts how are you.. " ..

    I always thought a **** was a leather pouch that they kept sharpening stones wet in to sharpen knives and swords. (I'm sure I saw it on a programme that was on about swear words and there origins)
