I think the 5/1 you quoted must be the win price rather than the place. Place price will be 1/5 odds at the bookies assuming all 8 run. Should there be non-runners it will be 1/4 odds the place.

Yes, came in in price too. Didn't get his run in until a little bit too last. The timing in that last half furlong is crucial.
