Mel wanted to sack GR for under perfoming and failing to attain promotion, but that would take a lot of money as he has just being given an enhanced contract. So, noting that Stoke had just axed their manager, and they had been interested in GR before, he lets it be known that we have no money and will have to sell our best players. The future is grim, prospects are bleak. He then drops a hint in the press that Stoke may be interested, thus attracting that interest from Stoke and also GR.

Result: GR quits, we bank a couple of million compensation instead of having to pay a few million to get rid, and the new manager will mysteriously get funds now without having to sell our best players. Pretty shrewd move eh, and here we are slagging Mel off? If only it were so!
That the foresight of Mad Mel though, gives a manager he knows kinda wants out if we fail to go up a big juicy pay rise, we fail to go up and Mad Mel is stuck between a drone and a rock.

Right now we can't be going sh it or bust, we did that from Clement to Pearson, and we fu cked it up. what we need now is someone who will come in and slowly weed out the over paid slobs, get the youth in and slowly implement a style over time, that's why I'm not against Dean Smith and his databases, only problem is Mad Mel wont like it if we are struggling in mid table, he'll smash the computers up and tell Dean to do one.

What's all this Rowett officially gone rubbish?

I've just received my 'Rams Weekly Wrap' email from the club and there's no mention of him leaving.

If this has, indeed, been a tactical move by Mel then he is a tactical genius and should be taking his coaching badges. It will have been the tactical move of a shrewd businessman.

Might as well burn all of Stoke's money before somebody else comes and does.
