It's all about the man in possession, the reason why Statham, Mullen, Bomber and Richards didn't get as many as they deserved.
I also think Batson was better than Phil Neale.
The England team in those days were picked by a commitiee, of which 2 where from Wolves. Ronnie Allan was called up for his 2nd cap 2 years after his ist,if think Johnny Nichols was also called up to play for England. On the same day as Albion played Wolves during the title race 53- 54, Ray Barlow had to play up front.

I don’t think it was England it was the old football league against the Scottish league, in those days as you rightly say the captain also helped pick the team.they chose Allen and Nichols ,the captain of England couldn’t let a full Albion side loose against the wolves so he he used his influence, also in those days no one said no to England.wolves give Albion a kicking and the rest is history as they say.after that my old man hated the wolves captain and winterbottom with a vengeance.

The idiot has wore the word Albion on his chest for 3 years. Isn't it the oldest name for Great Britain?

HATS, was what it was called and they would use coach companies like Sealandair.

When I started going to away matches in late 80's it was the Sealandair coaches we went and there used to be a song sung at matches around that time of "we will follow the Albion, over land and sea and water.

Went home and away in those and saw us at old grounds like roker Park and ayresome Park.

leons coaches have the contract now.

They do us one week and the dings the next, where they have big problems with their lot taking booze on them so have to check all bottles.

Anyone remember Harold Whitehouse, who used to organise Throstle Club coaches back 50 years ago? Miserable old bugger who didn't like us singing on his coach.
