    Same team different ethos?

So we finished 6th and for 1/4 if the season we were the (second) best team in the division. Which should mean we have players who are ‘up to the task’. We collectively think we’ll get ffff-all for anyone if we sell, so who’s to say an insirational manager with a positive ethos/approach can’t make our current rabble click? Or am I dreaming again?

Andy No you are not dreaming we have some good Championship players It just needs the right management Fans always fall into the trap of thinking. other teams have better players than ours Some may have one or two just usually it's down to the manager Its no coincidence that managers like Warnock Pullis and Bruce are successful

I can see an element of reasoning in this post however - GR went for a charge on promotion based on players that had big game experience but were the wrong side of 30.

We fell short and if there really is no dosh to spend then how effective will the over 30's be 1yr on?

I’m not suggesting not blooding some youngsters, just that the right manager might manage individuals as well as the team better

Top 6 was a freak Wolves team, Cardiff who Warnock managed to get over performing as he has he has done with several other sides, Fulham who were a revelation second half of season, Villa who's expectations were higher than ours, Boro who we all knew Pullis would turn round and us. I'm not sure we could expect anymore from the players we had? 6th was a good effort over the course of a season. Cardiff aside and that Warnock effect the others were all better than us on paper and on grass.

It will be even harder next year.

There is a strong basis IMO. Ship some out. Promote some of the young uns. Bring one or two in from elsewhere and go again.

Not being negative just suggesting we did well to make 6th all things considered.

Lampard new fav for job and whilst unproven would have some good contacts for signings/loans.

Totally agree with that assessment of this season, Manx. It was only really a disappointment because we appeared to promise so much more around the half way mark.

As for next season...impossible to call. It may look harder, but as with this season it’ll probably be impossible to predict.
I doubt that anyone could have foreseen the fates and fortunes of Sunderland, Wolves or Cardiff. As far as we are concerned everything will depend on the choice of manager and his hopefully much improved dealings in the transfer market.

One thing consistent at the end of each season, is that we say we've blown our chance of going up in a poor quality championship and that next season it's bound to be more difficult.

Every year average teams from the previous season come through and get promotion, Cardiff, Huddersfield, Watford etc, etc.

Literally, anyone could get promotion next season. Millwall were amongst the favourites to go down and only just missed out on the play offs.

The championship is a lottery and hopefully next season is when our numbers are chosen.
