Face book and Moscow - a warning and an opportunity.

Last week I was told my fbook account had been reactivated. I thought it had been deleted in 2010 by my daughter.

After worrying about whether to click on a link I went into the account and could not find any way of deleting it. It still held all my personal details. I was only able to deactivate it again and left a strong message they needed to have a link to allow deletion.

This week it happened again and I forgot/ignored it. Two days later I was told my password had been changed on an email saying Dear Angie - that isn’t my name and I don’t look like the 25 year old girl whose photo now adorned my details. This email told me it had been changed from an IP Address in Moscow. It asked me to change my password if it wasn’t me. I did that but could not delete the photo.

I won’t bore you with any more BUT there is now a link allowing you to delete the account if you look hard enough. Which I did. The response said they were sorry to lose me and if I went back within 14 days the account would be reactivated. I’m now hoping Angie doesn’t crack my new password or I’ll never get out.

So much for data protection laws, and I now know Russia know my personal details. If you see a post on here that doesn’t sound like me, it could be Vladimir or Angie.

You may wish to delete your fbook or at least make you password much stronger.

Comrade Putin will be most displeased you have deactivate your account, I would steer clear of park benches for a few years oldcolner. joking aside these new laws won't do a great deal to combat the criminal aspect of online life and ID theft as the data is out there already on multiple servers and company databases which will be hacked if they want the data badly enough, in some cases it doesn't work at all and in my opinion makes the data more accessible. Take my other half for instance she is a brownie leader and due to gdpr they now have to put all data on secure digital media and destroy paper copies of any data held, now correct me if I'm wrong but a note book with names addresses phone numbers etc locked away in our house is far safer than having it on a supposedly safe server that could be hacked by somebody from anywhere in the world if they wanted to.
