Good news - Burnley Star takes International retirement

Having not made the World Cup Defour says he now wants to ‘focus on his club’ and feels he can use what would have been future international breaks to rest and make sure he’s fit enough for Burnley.

Burnley have looked to activate a two year extension on the player’s contract, and the midfielder ‘greatly appreciates’ this gesture. There’s no talk now of a possible exit this summer.

Great news! I'm actually surprised that more players, particularly those earning top £/$/€ playing in the major leagues don't do likewise:
At thirty he's unlikely to be in contention for a 2022 World Cup place and by retiring from international football, he might well extend his top level club career by one or two years more, so earning an extra £3 or 4 million in wages and let's be honest, if he really sparkles over the next two years, the Belgina FA will be phoning him up and he can come out of retirement just in time for the 2020 Euros.
I've always felt that a contributing factor in Ryan Giggs playing at the very highest level for so many years was the fact that he was Welsh and effectively got every summer off to rest-up.
