The amount of money Derek Pavis invested in his first few years was phenomenal for a club of our size, and with the help of Neil Warnock he delivered astonishing success, but the truth is the support base didn't respond in large enough numbers to justify continuing such an outlay.

All those people who say we need Chairmen to be "more ambitious" and "speculate to accumulate", well, Derek Pavis did both, and we averaged just 10,987 in Division 1 in 1991/92. It is what it is.
