OT: So here's why the BBC and the Guardian kept quiet about Tommy Robinson

Fancy the Guardian et al respecting reporting restrictions which were in place until being lifted today. Maybe the end of civilisation as we know it is not at hand.
Break the law and expect to be punished.

    If only that was true.
ref: the reason TR was at the court in the first place.
Nobbled. Nice try though, but most of us are not that gullible.
High profile cases have not had restrictions on them. Also, with what they arrested and charged TR with, applies to millions in the country.
But the law is very selective when it suits. From pedophiles to MP's fiddling.

I am not sure what the Guardian article is telling us, except that.....the court had decided that the Muslim defendants were to be tried in secret, a white activist tried to film from outside the court in a public street....and has now been jailed for doing so.....are you Sid, honestly trying to tell us that is fair in your eyes?

As far as I am aware, you once touted yourself as a proper bona-fida Guardian reporter?...........you are saying that you would never try to follow up on a story, for fear of being arrested and jailed?....and, if it did happen, you would be happy for the public to accept the decision, back down....and happily wander off to sink a few in Wetherspoons and go home to watch Jeremy Kyle?

You amaze me more and more every day with your double-standards

If more journalists followed Andrew Norfolk's example, then perhaps Mr Robinson might feel comfortable going back to being Mr.Yaxley

Tommy Robinson would/ should have known the risks he was taking when he decided to broadcast from outside the court.

Whilst his supporters might feel it's an infringement for him to not be able to Facebook live anywhere he chooses, it really is very old and established British law he was breaking there by filming those people and potentially prejudicing their trial.

If anyone wants to read an interesting explanation of all this, check the below link. I particularly like:

"7. So what you’re saying is that Tommy Robinson was given a suspended sentence simply for trying to report on a case? Free speech is truly dead.

No, ye of little brain. He was found to be in contempt of court and given a suspended sentence because his actions put a serious criminal trial in jeopardy. Running around a court building shouting “*****phile” at defendants during a live trial, or live-streaming defendants and members of the public – potentially including jurors – entering and exiting a court building against a tub thumping narration of “Muslim *****phile gangs”, is hardly conducive to ensuring a fair trial. And if there can’t be a fair trial, nobody gets justice."

This was a well laid trap for the " establishment" , and they jumped into it with both feet. TR just became a national, and international
cause célèbre. Notoriety always trumps obscurity

For an opponent of a religion that extols martyrdom, the irony is breathtaking. TR just stole Islam's clothes.

Can Harvey Weinstein get a fair trial on this basis, I'd suggest not.

Sequestering the jury would have been far less controversial if the collapse of the trial was such a real risk. He was arrested for breach of the peace btw, not contempt.

Its any excuse to hound him.
They have had it in for him for ages, in an attempt to keep him quiet. They have held him in custody without charge, in order to stop him attending rallies.
They take the disturbance of the peace or his attendance is disruptive to an extreme.
The only thing they haven't tried yet, is a gulag or shooting him.
