As to the wider issue, the name change was probably the final straw with Ashley for me. It's a shame JR isn't around because he was really good with the financial stuff but there's loads out there about how little we've progressed our income streams especially compared to clubs we were on a par with when Ashley first arrived. Fact is, he should be doing more to bring in more money-not making the club pay Sports Direct for their strips, not advertising throughout the ground for for free and all the other stuff. Getting money for changing the name of the ground would be another two fingers to the fans.

And before anyone argues about the lack of interest on his 'loan' and why shouldn't he advertise at his club for free...that has to work both ways: he's happy enough to siphon off money from NUFC to Sports Direct-including the lack of advertising rights payments-but when it's the other way round the club have to pay Sports Direct for kit??

    Pfft
    Well said.

New stadium would be a different matter but for St. James, even for £8 million i wouldn't want it.

Fully agree we should be maximising our income streams a hell of a lot more.

    The debt was there
    He didn't create it

He could off made the club pay it back

    Most business men would

So I don't begrudge a few sports direct logos around

Even if he was aware of it the truth is it was there
If he was aware of it and chided not to buy the club

Where would we. E know under Shepard etc

    Playing Sunderland next season maybe

The truth is it is there and sooner or later it will need paying
    It won't go away

The club will always own the debt

    It won't go away

    It just sits there increasing

It's just a figure on a piece of paper

Until he either calls it in or the next owner pays it

He won't even oh he knew it was there he would still have left it there

It's us the fans who have been robbed by the previous owners
    They spe

Whoever buys the club in the future will have to pay it. That’s partly why he upped the cost of buying the club in May. £149m debt + £250m to buy the club.

It looks like Staveley doesn’t have the finances to pay £400m then transfer money on top.

8 million a year- backdated 11 years would make a helluva hole in the mythical debt.

i wouldnt sell the naming rights at all

but to be fare he can have wal to ceiling adverts for all i care
i hardly notice them as i usually look at the lads on the pitch
although last season watching the footy we wee dealt with i did find myself looking around
    and i thought
how can any idiot find a piece of wrighting on a wall offensive etc
especially when the person that has it there owns our club and saved us from the previous owners

as much as i liked the sunderland derbys
i think we would have fallen as quick if not quicker than them if he hadnt stepped in

    now thats an opinion

and not put on here to create or shi73 stir

    you are correct
i think the price went up as the debt did

its like one of those interest mortgages only

sooner or later someone has to pay it back
and i bet it wont be ash

naming writes may get us 2-4 mill on a good year

would only just pay the interest on the debt he had

so really this is what he is doing

saying if the club cant pay me it back ill have some free advertising

    and who can blame him
at least his buisness makes money
    not like northern rock etc
