Robert Davidson invented the first electric car around 1837
Some US sources cite Davenport(US) at the same time, but it's very debatable.

Davidson also made a loco which was showcased on the edinburgh/glasgow line , since the railway hadn't as yet come as far as Aberdeen, I think.
Davidson lived in canal st ( aberdeen) & was a polymath . Being a wealthy chemist & practical astronomer also.
not a lot of people know that

I'd previously thought Porche made the 1st electric car.
It was true 'his' first car was electric.

In fact originally in the USA 40% of cars were Electric(30% steam & 30% gas), till ironically the electric starter motor was invented.
replacing the inconvenient & dangerous crank handle, for the gas cars

    & now history repeats itself.

If Tesla(nikola) had got his way we would have been electric long ages ago. thanks to JP Morgan for that.

I've owned a couple of ford fiesta's total rustbuckets though.

They are quite rightly making a comeback, often not as options either. My next car will have one, will be the first must have feature, I hate air-con.
