You're probably right, Acido, but I get completely cynical about top-level football at times. I can't bring myself to opt out, though.
I did with tennis actually, many years ago - when the players were first allowed to get away with abusing the officials because they were "stars". I've never watched it since.
Football's too ingrained, however. Having said that, I must say I get a lot of pleasure from watching park-football in Auckland. I don't know the players from Adam, and the game is all that matters. I really don't want to know what clothes a player prefers and what car he drives.

Btw we appointed a German manager/coach this week Auks, and some of us are genuinely excited about this appointment.
However, if we want to talk about coming straight back up next season, is that confidence or arrogance eh ?.

I don't think that's arrogance, Acido. With supporters, hope springs eternal. It's the exaggerated importance of football players and other "celebrities" that gets to me.
A mid-season break for the PL??? It's not as if England usually gets Continental winters!
I think farm-workers should get that break too, or road-menders. I'll suggest it to their bosses.
And what about nurses? I'm sure they'd appreciate a month off in February.

Acido.. I shall watch your new managers progress with interest. Looks a promising one to me. Fired from Hannover 96 despite a 54% win ratio in his 28 games in charge. Must have very high expectations at that club and he's been unfortunate. Only 44 years old.

    Just a note:
Although I’m looking forward to it , it’s worth noting in the Criterium that Bardet and Barguile are looking (for now) way off being able to mount a challenge and therefore v v bad for the French supporters morale in finally, finally have something / someone to give them something to cheer!
If as expected CF rides it I can see major conflict coming from the watching crowds in trying to affect and dislodge him from doing what he does best.
As said many times , it’s the on road route throng that elevates the event into its lofty standing as a sporting occasion . But with that ready access comes the huge problem of control ie totally impossible to police!
Further note : good to see that one of my fave guys: ‘G’ Garraint now doning the yellow, fully fully deserved . I just love the way he commits himself to whatever he’s asked and never seems to make any excuses when things just don’t work out.
One of the nice guys of sport.

Tahh Sax, and yes I agree that his sacking at Hannover Fc looked to be totally unfair when it happened, because his team were 4th at the time. I think it was a set of new owners who took over and wanted their own man in etc, and they did manage to finish 2nd actually and win promotion.
We're trying to look positively about a possible promotion winning season under the new German coach, lets wait and see eh!.
