    Mid season break . . .

. . . for English clubs from 2019/20 season, two weeks apparently. Thoughts?

Just the PL though, so it doesn't really count!

    What's the point?

If we were guaranteed some really bad weather as in parts of Europe then yes but why else, our weather isn't bad enough to warrant it.

The parts of Europe where they do it, it's because they can and do, get weather that is below -20c.

Apparently to help with the national team and international competitions, so yeah, like you said, no point whatsoever!

Mid-season break for them all to have a rest and recover....by flying to the US and Asia to play in exhibition matches.

If they do it in all the other major European leagues it makes sense to follow suit, but it's all for the benefit of the Champions League teams and, again, to the detriment of fans, with more midweek games.

Sod’s law is a dead cert for this. There will be mild temperatures and sunny weather during the period of the break, followed immediately by 6 ft of snow everywhere, resulting in the postponement of all matches for the next two weeks.

A good idea in theory, but in practice it’s got no chance...

The break in PL football might benefit clubs in the EFL - more TV money, perhaps larger attendances.

Well that's nonsense for a start because they aleady suspend the top two divisions during international weeks so how would it be different to what we have now?

The new rules will not affect the EFL is seems.

I'm all for change, but not this one.
In our country you can have mass cancellations any time from Dec 1 to Mar 31. You'd just come off a winter break to have the next month wiped out by bad weather

Spain, Italy, France and Germany all do it, to be fair and none of them get worse weather than us, even the teams near the Alps

Agree, this is nothing to do with weather though, I just heard on the 'Beeb' that 'the players asked for it', I'll bet they did, a nice couple of weeks on a beach in January, who wouldn't.

Parts of these countries get much colder winters than us?
