What's your earliest world cup memory..

Although I do remember seeing Gazza cry in 1990 I was only 7 so it was possibly replays etc that are stuck in my mind..

I have to say the 94 final when Roberto Baggio missed penalty and Brazil won it..

Bryan Robson scorning at the start of the match in the Spain 82 World Cup against France I think we won 3-1
I was 10 year old watching the game on holiday in Majorca in a dusty bar on a small portable tv with my dad and a dozen or so English.
I was exited and the goal coming so near the start of the game was amazing

1974 world cup was my first real memories in terms of watching some of the team on the telly and the stand out players like Gerd Muller, Vogts, Beckenbauer and Cruyff, Neeskens, Johnny Rep and the Kerkhof twin brothers.

I shouldn't really mention that we didn't qualify as being a memory factor let alone following it up by not qualifying for the 1978 world cup which has stuck 90% more firmly in my mind than the 74 one.

1958 a 17 year old called Pele destroying one of the favourites France with a hat trick in the semis and then scoring 2 against the home team favourites Sweden in the final.

England had lost some of their best players at Munich but didn't do too badly.

One of my grandfathers was born in Antrim so I was pleased to see Northern Ireland do well with the likes of Peter McParland,Danny Blanchflower and Billy Bingham in the side.

Nahhh, it wasn't just your telly. We had to nip round the shops and buy a big snow shovel for ours.

'98 stands out for me. The Brazil team was amazing, but Zidane destroyed everyone on his route to victory.
