O'Connor turns down 2nd offer from Notts

I will be disappointed if he doesn't sign a new deal.

Firstly because we stood by him when he was injured for most of last season and secondly in the Play Off game at Meadow Lane, he single-handedly changed the game when he came on, controlling the midfield and creating chances. Yes we lost the game but he was arguably our best player on the night.

Would prefer it if he’d signed for us as his recent performances albeit bit part have been impressive, however it opens the door for the younger new signings, let’s be right, Ryan Yates was our player of the season last season at 19 and he was only with us for half of that season. As others have said, let him go and let’s concentrate on developing the young ‘uns.

It surprises me though. Has he actually played 90mins since Notts helped him back to save his career?

If he was under contract to Notts, wouldn't Notts be obliged help return him to fitness. Notts couldn't cancel his contract without his agreement (what sort of message would that send?). There's so much money in the game today, even at our level, I find it strange that people expect loyalty. Like most of us he will do what he considers to be best for his family. How many of the current crop will be granted a testimonial?

Not going to be held to Ransom by a 30 year old crock whose knees have gone! Absolutely no guarantee that he is capable of playing a full season and we did perfectly well without him.

Get somebody younger in with a resale value.

He didn't pull any trees up under Sheridan, sparked into life under Nolan, got injured and hasn't managed ninety minutes since.
He looks good in comparison to Noble, but that's setting the bar quite low. Nowhere near Yates or even an ageing Neal Bishop, never mind the Bishop of the Munto season.
Save the money and move on.

We did alright without him earlier in the season. Show him the door and move on. He will probably get injured again and won't play many matches for whoever he signs for.

If AH spouted off about contracts at a tournament thats poor. Apologies for doing the same but apparently OConnor was happy with the money offered. He wasnt happy that nearly everyone was getting 2 or 3 year contracts and he got offered a one year contract depending on appearances. He hasnt missed a training session or match since March since he came back and feels his performances against Luton and second leg against Coventry proved he is back to full fitness and should have been offered more than what he was.

How does that work?

1 year seems right, but this phrase suggests he was offered a kind of zero hours contract for which he isn't guaranteed his money for that year! If there was a clause that pegged his salary in that year to whether or not the manager picked him or he's not injured, then it makes sense for him to look for something else.

Let him go, we'll find better. Decent player but is he THAT good?

This is the problem - I don't think we will find anyone better. He's our club captain, a real leader, and decent footballer - our best midfielder by some way. It's not easy to find an upgrade on that. Besides, I doubt we'll try to replace him. We've got loads of midfielders as it is, so maybe Hardy and Nolan are hoping one of the youngsters will step up.

Sure, we did OK without him last season, but as we saw against Coventry, he could make a real difference to the way we play. Noble isn't anywhere near that level.
