I think the phrase 'rust bucket' could have been invented for the mini......or was that anything Italian or French? Revolutionary yes, pity some of the mechanics didn't revolve when they should. Whoever thought of putting the gearbox in with the engine oil must have won the 'worst design of the year award' back then. I'm sure the sales receipts must have had a guarantee stating the gearbox will self destruct after 60,000 miles....that's if something else hadn't been terminal in the meantime! Had a mini traveller once, biggest money pit of my life, then and now!!

I had the steering fail on me as I turned right on a dangerous junction....the wheel just span around in my hands!
My wife has had the newer minis and they leave the old ones in the mist.

Had some happy times in the back of a mini with the front seats tilted forward, very cramped, but very happy.
As for the cars themselves regular repairs and maintenance were generally pretty straight forward.
The only major problems related to gears, transmission, suspension, chassis frame and holes in the bodywork which were big enough to drive a.... er...... mini through.
Fun, basic, cheap and unpretentious.
