Drug addled lard arse who, whilst a brilliant footballer in his time, shouldn't be given air time. He's symptomatic of what is wrong in world football! Total p*at in my view!

Just been a brilliant documentary on him on Sky called 'Bring me the head of Diego Maradona'. We may hate him but he's a god in Naples. He arrived promising them a league title and delivered on it twice. Napoli hadn't won it in 60 years until he arrived. The programme makes the point that local and national Politicians and organisations in Naples promised the townspeople, especially the poor, everything but never delivered anything for a run-down and devastated city also in thrall to crimes bosses. In his tenure Napoli won the scuddeto twice, the UEFA Cup, the Coppa Italia and the Italian Super Cup.

He even got half the Neapolitan crowd to cheer for Argentina when they played Italy in the World Cup semi-final, which he and Argentina won. Extraordinary. The Despotic Argentine Generals regime prevented Cesar Menotti picking him for the 78 World Cup side and ensured a River Plate player went instead because Maradona had upset them. When the World Cup was played in then US he tore into Blatter & Havelange for making teams play at midday in 40 degree heat. They were incandescent apparently. 3 days later he was the first and still only player to be led off the pitch by a medic for a drugs test which he failed. Ha! Terrible but also veeeeery interesting!

I spent some time in Naples last year and its true that his picture is still present in the front windows of the various Napoli club shops around the city. Talking to people who live there, they take a similar view to many other people in that his ability as a footballer and his qualities as a person are two very different things. As with all things Maradona, if you listen to him he's always the victim. The fact that he's had a £33Million tax bill outstanding for 20 odd years which the Italian Exchequer is adamant must be paid doesn't stop him from claiming they're out to get him.

As for the drugs test in the US, can anyone not watch that goal celebration where he ran up to the camera snarling and waving his fists and not tell me that was someone on drugs? He made his own luck with that. Its a bit like finishing your pint on a pub carpark and getting in to your car whilst a police car watches you from over the road. Your nailed on to get stopped under suspicion of DD. So it was with Maradona but according to him he was victimised (again)

I am not a good enough wordsmith to say what I think of Maradona without bad language.
