Having been born there I can only tell you you how I feel.
It’s a certain pride, maybe because of the War of the Roses battle....I find Lancastrians to be just the same in regards to their county.
I don’t find that many other areas have the same pride in their county, nobody has ever told me they are a proud Warwickshire man or Sus*** man.
Certain counties just seem more passionate about their county,Es*** Man for example.
We left Yorkshire due to a lack of work prospects for my dad in the late 60’s......as s family we all agree though,it’s great to occaissionally “go home” whilst being quite happy in the Midlands now.
To misquote Groucho, "Yorkshire is God's country … and he can have it." Or, as someone said after the usual Boycott rant, "You never need to ask a Yorkshireman where he's from because he'll already have told you."
I'm a Brummie lad meself but back when I was born the bit I was in was in Warwickshire. I was proud to be a Brummie but not now, the place is a bit of a c*ap hole (keeping up the no sear rule......does that get me Baggie points?) if you ask me. As for Warwickshire nothing there to be proud of is there?
Met quite a few Yorkies when working......all the one's I met were real tos*ers.....mind you they worked in the Civil Service so perhaps that was the real reason!
It's all too easy to generalise about Yorkshire people but
A genorosity of spirit, a warm welcome to outsiders and an unfaltering sunny disposition are just 3 qualities they have never bothered with!
Brum', it's outlying areas and the Black Country are no worse than most built up areas.
I can think of many that are far worse and several of them are in Yaaaarkshire, a county which has a lot going for it and which I like.
I'm from Smethwick and I don't really care what others think about the place, it's where I'm from and that's that.
As for the weather I'm absolutely loving it apart from the sleepless nights and I'm off for a walk shortly.
Dare say we'll have the odd glass of cold stuff while we're out too, and I won't care which county or country it comes from.
They call it Gods county for a very good reason of course.
Ohh and going back to the Op, I can't stand this horrible hot weather!.
