Really?
Who’s paying?
Not 'great news', just 'who's paying', no surprise i suppose,
To answer though, i suppose the same ones who pay for those extra hols in the vast majority of countries across the world, indeed, the UK has the fewest public holidays (8) than any EU country, and any G20 country, an indictment of how the 'establsihment' think about the working folk of this land eh....
...never did like the workers did you Grist? Though strangely you must have been one yourself once upon a time. Did one bite you on the arse or something once when you were young? Is that why you are so averse to them? Get to know a few you might like em! Its like trying food, you will never know you like summat till you try it.
Anyway with regard to who should pay: you pay. You must have got a few bob to spare if you are so scared of lefties.

Not really, it’s just that our society now is so complex that it would be difficult to be fair when it comes to extra public holidays.
Dead easy for a sound bite politician to say it without costing it out fully.
The self employed for example, do they just give themselves an extra day off? Some of them would be even disadvantaged if their trade is connected to bigger businesses that would be closed.
Public sector workers, doesn’t really work there unless the money to pay them is via increased taxation. Also some would have to work those bank holidays ( NHS, Police, Fire etc) with days off at another time. Causing more disruption
Private sector, yes they can pay it but would compensate by putting up prices. Remember also that many U.K. factories work a pattern that fits in with the EU, because most manufacturing businesses work on a just in time principle, so public holidays sometimes have to be worked so international deliveries are met.
Also those choosing to work zero hours contracts, what about them?
So it’s not a “poor bloody worker” thing it’s just the impracticality of the idea.
A very reasoned argument that young Grist but you miss the obvious like taxing the rich, getting rid of the royalty and their many hangers on, nukes etc.
In any case, extra days holidays are nice but if peoples working conditions were better in this country, people wouldn't be so bothered about having extra days off.
Another point I've just thought of. What did you think to the day we had off for the Royals?

So, point by point,
1. Fair grist, is it "fair" that we all have a lower number of public holidays than every one of our competitors, and then some?
2. Soundbite politician?, his policies are fully costed, full stop.
3. Self employed means exactly that, they do what they want, when they want, regardless.
4. Public sector workers, once again, why does it obviously work in all our competitor's country's then?? they have the same issues as we have, somehow those pesky foreigner's can work it out can't they...
5. Private sector working patterns, don't we all work different patterns, for what it's worth i work all except statutory's, many people do, what's the issue?
6. I like your choice of words there, "those choosing to work zero hour contracts" I think you'll find the vast majority don't choose them, they're the only option to get work in many many cases...
7. The upshot is, there aint no impracticalities.
