Thread: Steve mallan

I believe at Championship level, he probably didn't match up physically, speed etc with rest of your squad. On the outside looking in, it seems to me that you need to be a total athlete to be considered at that level. Stevie is a bit of a throwback. He will never dominate the midfield but he turned so many games in a second with wonder strikes, delivery into box or a defence splitting pass. When he was at St.Mirren, he was our David Beckham. Beckham rarely dominated his opponent physically. He never used to beat a man either. He just needed a yard, whipped a ball in and striker couldn't miss. 30 yard free kicks were like penalties. Could turn defence into attack with a 50 yard pass. That is what Mallan offers. He is never going to be the physical specimen that Championship managers seem to desire. Just my opinion.

That was one of the plus points of us signing him I seem to remember, we'd heard that he was/is a set piece specialist but this particular talent of his was hardly tapped into.
Maybe he let himself down in training, because he hardly put a foot wrong when he did get a chance in the 1st team. He made one glaring mistake which led directly to a goal against us, and then the ridiculous coach took him off and dropped him immediately, and we never saw him again!!.
