    Eng v Belg

We pose no threat from open play to any decent opposition, add to this our frailties at the back and we are nowhere near as good as we think we are.

Reality check for England, we are very average, Belgium have dealt with us very easily and carved us open on the break, almost at will.

I also think that GS had a duty to England fans, to pick the best team and try and win this match which he didn't.

There is a gulf between the two teams. Belgium attack with pace and purpose whereas we're too ambling, allowing them to keep their shape and positions.

Totally agree, we're far too slow, almost like the outdated, Spanish 'tica taka' but slower and far less effective.

We are one-paced. Mind you, if De Bruyne and Hazard were English we’d have a great team.

The three defeats in this World Cup showed up the lack of truly top players in English football. All of the best players in the Premier League are from overseas. Until that changes, we’ll remain an also-ran at the highest level.

Nous in the final third was really bad today, but overall semi-finals is a great advance on the last few tournaments. Can we unearth a couple of top international players to join Stones, Trippier and Kane for the next euros?

It's always the risk with teams who like to keep possession, the possession becomes more important than creating danger.

Good that we lost, there is work to do and a late flourish might have papered over the cracks.

3 defeats in the same World Cup doesn't seem much like progress. It think it's emperor's new clothes time. We have seen that a decent team pressing high can totally nullify the 3-5-2 system that Southagte prefers and he has no plan B.

    But it is progress.
Sure, they had no answer to the pressing at times. If GS wants to go on with 3-5-2 you've got have centre-backs ready to run into spaces ahead and commit their players. Stones and Maguire can do it and found themselves playing forward sometimes, but it looks accidental and not part of the plan at all. Did anyone notice in one of Stone's runs, he just stopped playing and started walking back to his position with the play going on all around him. Why?

The other thing is learning from Belgium how to play wing-backs. Their first goal, Chadli crossing for Meurnier to score. Any chance of ours ever doing that? Not at the moment, but this is the level we have to get to to ever stand a chance.

The problem is it would be coached out of them and they would be required to play in this formation that the powers that be think is successful.

3 defeats, a scrape past Tunisia and a lucky break in the penalty shoot out against Colombia would suggest otherwise.
