I reckon Leighfield is in for the League Cup. Martin assured me at the Doonhamers Travel Club night he'd be match fit for the new season.

This is the new season. If he`s fit Martin needs to start next game.

I wouldn't read too much into Martin not playing yet. Leighfield could well just be in for the League and Challenge Cups.

Unless you know for sure then it`s just as likely that he didn`t start yesterday because he is carrying a knock. If that`s the case no issue at all with that but if he is fit he needs to play in advance of the league games starting in my view.

We need an experienced stopper who has confidence and command of their area - Jack lacked that against Stranraer.

Watching Alan warming up on Saturday: still carrying a bit of weight and lacking the agility required for a modern shot stopper at championship level.

He told me he'd be raring to go this season and injury free...
