Amazing 1-2 for Mercedes in German F1 GP

Hamilton wins from 14th as Vettel crashes out from the lead as rain affects the track, leaving Bottas 2nd after a safety car tyre change. Pretty amazing result putting Hamilton 17 points ahead of Vettel and Mercedes ahead of Ferrari overall.

Lewis Hamilton has kept his victory at the German Grand Prix after an investigation into a driving offence.

He aborted a decision to pit to change tyres under a safety car and cut across the grass to rejoin the track and take the lead.

F1 rules dictate that "crossing the line separating the pit entry and the track by a car entering the pit lane is prohibited".

But the 33-year-old escaped with a reprimand.

    Phew!

I thought the Germans would stitch him.

Sure they would, but I think it’s an F1 panel making decisions not the home team.
