He was going for than more 8 runs an over bowling to tail enders. Look more to the batsmen, who seem to have no guts for a fight. They probably got the worst of the conditions, but when Harry Gurney is your top scorer you have real problems. It's easy to blame the captain, but Mullaney commands respect and is one of the few to have performed reasonably well. The players need to take a long, hard look at themselves, because there is no way this squad should be performing as badly as they are.
OK then, Root got lucky, but we do seem a bit complacent about having 4 decent seamers. As often as not they toil all day for very little reward. It seems more variety is needed. Mullaney is one of the few who can get a decent score, but he's not that reliable, is he? A second ball duck and 23 says he's not.

And so, we lose by an innings and 183 runs. That's just pathetic, really. I wish I didn't care but after being a junior member for years, it still troubles me.

Just watched the last few wickets fall on the live stream. A little bit of early resistance from Samit, then the familiar tame surrender. The stats tell quite a story about the ineptitude of our batting - there are only 8 teams in Division One, but you have to go down to 27th place in the list to find the first Notts batsman, Tom Moores with an average of less than 37. Surrey have no less than SIX batsmen with a better average than that. Even rock bottom Worcestershire have three better! Harry Gurney is famous as one of the worst number elevens in the game, but incredibly even he stands above 'specialist' batsmen like Mullaney, Nash, Fraine and Root!

Having suffered most of the cricket played at Trent Bridge this year I fear for us. Poor recruitment, mismanagement of the overseas situation and the biggest problem for me - Mick Newell. He managed to get himself out of the firing line when things were going badly, Moores kept us up that season but, for me, doesn't have too much say about recruitment, that's down to our Director of Cricket who could never decide whether or not Notts or England was his priority.
I'm not optimistic about the rest of the season but if things go badly, Newell will survive and will still be supported by a core of players who will run to him and undermine Moores as stated by a previous poster. It's going to take something drastic to turn this around, Libby, Root, Fraine and Nash not good enough, Wessels, Samit and Gurney all past their best along with Ball being under par. Apart from that everything seems ok.

It’s been a grim summer. The early wins (on scores well below par by both Notts and others) have seen us gain enough points not to be relegated, but have masked the problems.

You have to wonder how much influence the chief exec is also having on Newell’s “cutting cloth” recruitment policy......

Whatever, the whole situation when the chief exec and head of cricket are an item and still pull all the strings cannot be good for what happens in the middle and the relationship between th coach and players.

Seamers depend on damp, humid conditions usually so maybe the tinder box summer ( the spinners realm?) is affectng their efficacy, it doesn't explain the poor batting though?

In a nutshell, must be nice to know that you're bullet proof whatever happens on the field. I sometimes wonder if they're more interested in chasing international games than what happens elsewhere. If this malaise isn't addressed soon then we'll have some major problems sooner rather than later.

Yep. We won a rain affected game by Duckworth-Lewis. A system that generally benefits the team who batted first and does not take into consideration a complete change to the environment the game is played, especially today.
