I do wonder sometimes why these young players are happy to sit in the 'big' team reserves, or only get to play first team football if they're loaned out, with very little likelihood of ever breaking into the first team (unless it's just the money of course......)

suspect it's money but I also don't understand it. was never given the talent to play at the pro level but if I had it I'd sure want to play. you do wonder how much money is enough. you can hire a top flight money manager and live comfortably the rest of your life.

if you achieve "legend status" at a club you'll never want for business opportunities or even a job at the club. that alone could pay for a good lifestyle.

sitting on a bench for 5-10 years does none of the above.

Money and footballing education. Not only that but Brown is still very young, yet already at Championship level. If Chelsea offered a multi-year deal to him then they clearly see something in him. Worst case scenario they will sell him for millions while not exactly hindering his progress either.

Izzy is good enough to get regular games in our team and has had vast experience in the Championship already. He shone at Rotherham in a team that had collapsed, before Chelski withdrew him and fed him to Huddersfield. Had many great games there and started in a successful Brighton team. Represented at England level. He won’t be festering anywhere that’s for sure. Very exciting and occasionally frustrating but Bielsa will make him the full package hopefully

Brown coming in shows a marked step up in the quality of loan signings this season along with the other couple [Not convinced about Harrison just yet]

Good test for us tonight... and even sterner one a week on Saturday.
I'll take the hit on the dross being disposed of (although temporarily in many cases), and glad to have been proved wrong. Theres another thread which outlines those who have been disposed of and makes the point that a squad as bloated as it was, especially bloated with dross, was an impossible management task for any manager. Happy to claim some kudos for suggesting, very, VERY early on, that most of Ortas signings were part of the bloated nonentity

its confirmed, all of our over 23s who were not part of the 19 "senior" squad members of Bielsas choosing have now gone

    okane luton
    anita willem
    ekuban trabzonspor
    sacko laspalmas
    wieldwald frankfurt
    lonergan middlesbrough
    cibicki molde
    antonsson malmo
    debock oostende
    bouy zwolle
    murphy bolton

thats a lot of surplus to requirements over 23s that to have in a squad, credit to the club for getting them out of the way at least temp if not perm on some of them

Don't know if the lass sitting beside Izzy at the match on Friday is his wife or girlfriend...but she is a welcome addition to the club also.
