    Fantastic part of the world.

    Windy but beautiful.

Played 2 rounds, we won first 4&3 but got a cuffng in the wind today 6&4.

    Cottages are absolutely superb.

    Thank you for your update.
It is a lovely part of Scotland and well worth a visit.
The weather forecast for the Campbeltown area looks ok for the rest of this week.
I remember reading that the US professional golfer Brad Faxon flew in to Glasgow Airport to play in the Open Championship either at Royal Troon or Turnberry. On arrival he hired a car and drove to Machrihanish where he slept in his car waiting for the starter to arrive so that he could have a round of golf on Machrihanish GC. Brad Faxon had previously heard how good the course was and despite the long journey he was determined to play the course prior to playing in the Open Championship.
I think that you will enjoy playing at Dunaverty.

If you have time the Jimmy Kerr Open competition takes place on Saturday 4th August. http://www.machgolf.com/documents/Ma...kouts-2018.pdf
These competitions usually have a small entry fee to encourage as many people as possible to enter.
Perhaps by Saturday you will be too tired to play a further 18 holes of golf on Machrihanish golf course.

Sadly this part of Scotland is a bit of a backwater as you have to go the extra mile to get there.
That is why Paul McCartney purchased a small farm in Kintyre. There is a daily plane service to Glasgow but it is out of the way and the locals respected his privacy.

Played dunes today .....loved it Islay.

    Gross 80 nett 71.

Staggering imagination to put a golf course there.

Can't see it from the beach, can't see any greens from the clubhouse.

The Dunes golf course is in the middle of nowhere next to the former NATO base where stealth bombers were flown and stored. In the late 1980’s £62 Million was spent extending the runway at Machrihanish but when the Berlin Wall was pulled down the base was closed down. Loganair now use the longest runway in Europe.

That is an excellent score on the Dunes course for someone playing the course for the first time. Last year they had a problem with rabbits damaging the course.
You must be a good golfer If you have a handicap of 9. Has your handicap been any lower since the introduction of the new handicapping system in 1983.

Only took up golf 4 years ago just after i retired although played a wee bit when younger.

Starting hcap was 10 went up to 11end of last season but at 9.1 now.....cud probably get down to 8.....at a push 7.

Could have been better but had a 7 on 15th as I put drive on the beach....which is in play but didnae fancy the climb down.

3 birdies today 4th, short par 4 to the beach, 14th shortlist par 4 back into the wind and stroke index 1 16th parallel to the beach.

Oh and it was off the white pegs as well...we weren't brave enough to play off the black but glad we played the whites instead of the yellows.

Great test and didn't seem to be any major problem with rabbits.
