There is a difference between "putting money in" and "investing".
There are other potential reasons than ego.
Tony Stewart has variously said that he is involved in order to put something back into the local community or that he has done it to keep himself busy - a hobby, if you will.
I've often wondered what's in it for the Barnsley owners. It's hard to make sense of it.
Some club buyers get involved because they are asset strippers - you know how capitalism works! I hope that isn't the case at Barnsley, although we have seen that in the past at Charlton, Brighton, Coventry, etc., but it has happened much more commonly further down the football pyramid, where clubs have disappeared, or ended up playing at a ground miles away from their original home I won't comment on RUFC under previous owners just in case the lawyers are looking in!

Disappointing that some people are virtually giving up after one bad game and blaming lack of funds.
Firstly, it's just ONE game. It might be a sign of things to come or it might not - we don't know yet. I doubt Stoke fans have written their team off after 90 minutes.
Secondly, money isn't the answer for us. We could double the budget and still be the poor relations. In my view, we have to play a different game. We have to make ourselves difficult to play against and hard to beat. Try to play Brentfords game (or many other teams in the league) and we'll still come up short, even with more money to spend. Warnock had the right idea when he was here. The difficulty is that it's not how Warne wants to play. Hopefully he'll start putting results before principles.
History tells us that Socialists tend to asset strip countries, but that's for another thread.
I can't see Barnsley as being a target for asset strippers. The assets that it has wouldn't make the effort worthwhile.
Bonkers. But I'm grateful.
has the club openly or properly look for investment.
if you dont try you dont get.
and I don't mean mentioning it in the local rag in a interview as trying.
