The morning after the night before

After last night where i was angry, frustrated and without a great deal of hope i have had time to reflect.

It sounds (although it could be a ploy) that we will not be signing anyone permanent before the deadline. We all know the situation with the 2 owners and we all read the court notes, so there is no real surprise that money is not being made available for permanents. This will not be resolved till at least after May 2019 or even later.
We apparently went for Waghorn, or did we really, and maybe should have gone for someone more realistic to our situation like Mohammed Eisa (has to be better than Leon Clarke).

So we are relying on loans but we all know there is no 100% when it comes to SUFC supporting any manager with decent transfer funds.

I think to try and get anything positive from last night and where we are we have to look at making the best out of what we have. The starting 11 and system just do not work, Lundstrum and Evans should never play in the same midfield again. We are no threat up front and have no pace or creativity. The central defenders also look unhappy in a back 3.

We simply have to go 4 4 2 to get the best out of what we have. This is what i would do.

    Moore or Henderson in goal

Back 4 of Baldock (or Freeman), Stearman, Egan and Bryan (JOC is not currently interested until the window is shut, when he may get his mojo back)

Midfield of Duffy, Fleck, Leonard and Woodburn (Leonard playing the defensive role)

Front 2 Sharp and McGoldrick (we are so poor upfront we have to at least bring 1 or ideally 2 loans in)

Firstly we have to be more solid at the back and this system has 2 classic centre backs, with Baldock and Bryan marshalling any wing play. that killed us against Swansea.

We have so much more creativity in midfield and hopefully Leonard will free Fleck up to do his driving runs forward. We know what Duffy brings and Woodburn has to play after last night.

Upfront we look really poor and so light it is a joke but Sharp and McGoldrick look the best of an average bunch with surely Clarke being dropped.

We can mess about with one upfront or go 4 3 3 but this is a system that Wilder played before he joined us and would at least steady the ship.

Your choice of midfield would be my choice too.

The last 2 games have shown us where we are - not as good as the better teams in the league. We haven't played an average one yet, maybe Saturday will be that.

A big reality check for me. Expectations for the season now suitably downgraded. Money does talk sadly and sadly we don't have enough.

Won't give up on them though.

I put this on another thread but this is the one talking tactics so here it is... again! Haha
This will never happen but would be interesting as a 4-3-3
    GK Hendo
    RB Baldock
    LB Norrington-Davis
    CB Egan
    CB JOC
    DM Bryan
    AM Evans
    AM Fleck
    FWD Woodburn
    FWD Duffy
    ST Sharp

Can’t see it of course but I do hope we see significant changes in our attackers on the weekend. UTB
